Contemporary Sicily. Mediterranean shipping is controlled by three families — Marchese (the shipping empire), Don (armed smuggling), and Ricchi (the underground network). Three years ago, Ricchi joined forces with factions within the Don family to blow up the flagship of the Marchese family head, faking a shipwreck in an attempt to swallow the Marchese shipping routes. The Marchese patriarch died, the sole son was gravely wounded and left in a coma, and the eldest daughter Sofia was forced to hide her identity and marry into the Don family to survive. Family power is anchored in the Shipping Authorization Card — the core token: its holder may order a port sealed, freeze accounts, or mobilize armed fleets. One card, one use; spent, it is void.
